www.pamsdogacademy.com Ok, this was really an unexpected video, but I thought it would be funny and it might be happening to others. Twix loves to play with our shoes. We are very lucky that he likes to just sling them around and play. He does not chew them up. YAY for that! If your dog likes to chew up your shoes, then make sure they are put away and he only has access to acceptable things to chew on. If it is left out, then it is not your dogs fault. A shoe is just a nice chew bone in the eyes of some dogs. They smell and taste good so they must be a chew bone.
Just teach your dog what is acceptable. Every time he has an unacceptable thing, trade him for an acceptable item. Eventually he will get the picture. We laugh and run after Twix, because it is a fun game and we know that he will not chew them up. He has a blast and we are ok with that, but if you are not ok with your dog playing with your shoes, then put the shoes away.
Have a great day! My dog only chews my shoes when I’m not around.
Twix is so cute! He thinks that the shoes is a toy for him!
Silly Twix!
Wow Brilliant video, I will definitely show this to a friend I know that recently got Sheltie puppy and their biggest problem is she she won’t stop chewing on shoes.
@Divinity33372 then you must make sure you always put your shoes away when u go out. plus he’s probably bored
Twiz is so grown up!
Twix*
Twix…what a cutie, he knows the good toys, shoes and underware! LOL. Kathy with Cricket/Liz/Breeze
hehe, I wonder if in the future people will make obedience and agility competitors strip all their clothes off, so the dog cant have a reinforcer in the ring!
No pony tails allowed either!
@kikopup Too funny! That could make dog sports really popular with spectators. HEHE! Well depending on who was competing. HAHA!
@bordergirlsmom Thanks Kathy, I have actually started leaving stuff around for him to get and bring to me. Who needs a house keeper when one has a BC.
Now, I say oops I dropped a “shoe”, Twix “get it” and eventually change the cue to something more clever.
He thinks it is great fun to pick up things I drop. Funny how quickly we can turn a behavior problem into a trick.
Take care!! Spring Break is coming!!! YAY!
@pamelamarxsen That is really cool, a dear friend of mine had a cattle dog that would pick stuff up for her and close doors, open doors, my friend just liked teaching tricks and the dog was amazing and loved to work. later she was diagnosed with ALS and over the next 18 months that dog was her service dog and it was so amazing, I dont know what my friend would have done without her dog and it helped her so much to keep the dog busy while and kept them both happy,so neat to see dogs learn that!
Finally, another trainer brings management up! Thanks Pam
if you don’t have time to train….. don’t get a border collie
@TreyRust OMG, you are so RIGHT! However, I do have time to train. hehe!
Over train….
I post most of my videos for average pet dog owners.
So, hopefully they will learn to manage as well as train their dogs. Thank you for your post.
We should nickname Twix “Goody Two Shoes”
))) He’s a sweetheart, and his floppy ears are adorable, I couldn’t picture him with prick ears lol. My favorite ear types for BCs are like Bandit, not prick but not floppy. His are just awesome! I’m becoming more in love with Border Collies!
